[atrb=align,right][atrb=style,width:320,btable][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,border-bottom: 1px solid #707070;] VINDICATOR | 'Hm...' The hussle and bussle of this oh so familiar world echoed through the cracks and crevices of the royal metropolis. 'Hmmm...' Aristocrats of the highest caliber roamed the extravagant streets with fancy garb and even fancier conversation. 'Dammit!' Humans, Viera, Seeq, and Bangaa alike made these prestigious streets what it was.
'You ladies done yet, hm?'
An arrogant tone of voice deep within one of the alleyways of the metropolis spoke -- victims at his fist battered and bruised in the cool refreshing shade. 'Hmmm?' The man hummed to himself as he swung a massive blade downwards -- it's incredibly sharp tip piercing the pavement below. Moan's of agony came from the individuals at his feet as the man looked over his handy work with a dull look of indifference -- his golden hue's glowing in the extremely dim light. 'I'll take that as a yes?' He asked -- the question rhetorical and tone drenched in nothing but arrogance. The downed men moaned in unison as they squirmed and wiggled due to the sheer pain they were feeling. 'Tch, all bark and no bite.'The man spoke -- insulting the downed men and adjusting the massive blade upon his back. He'd begin to leave the deep alleyway whistling a little tone. Upon leaving the shade of the tightly packed buildings, the blistering sun overhead hit the dark skinned male with intense heat and even intenser light. He'd shade his eyes with one of his arms as his optics adjusted to the lighting change. 'Gotta love the sun.' He'd murmur to himself as he lowered his arm and effortlessly blind in with the passing aristocrats and merchants. |

It had been some time since she was able to just bask in the midst of the people for a moment, but that wouldn't last long as she remembered her true goal. The young beauty had come amongst them to indeed protect them, listening and asking for information about anything unusual. Most of the people in Rabanastre were rich, the aristocrats from all of the races coming together to make this city what it was, even the poor had a place here. In Selvaria's mind, everyone was important, your rank didn't matter, though in reality it did with some things, but the people were all thriving in their own way. Taking a moment to speak to a bard singing on the street, she'd stop to ask him about anything he had probably heard. " Sir, you wouldn't have chanced upon any new information about the dangerous monster attacks would you?" she'd ask calmly.
The response she received was less than satisfactory, as they hadn't yielded anything more than what she already knew. That was always the downside to things like this but you would eventually hear something if you kept looking long enough. Sitting around the large fountain in the middle of the square, her light blue orbs would land upon the hulking figure of a man much larger than her, exiting the alley. He was different from the others and no matter how well he blended in, to her he stuck out like a sort thumb. An adventurer perhaps.
Her interest had been piqued, hope being restored as he possibly held some information as to some of the attacks. With a blade like that on his back, it obviously wasn't just for show. Quite the observant child but determined as well. Walking towards the massive man with snow white hair, she'd step rhythm beside him, her lips parting to speak as she looked at her beautiful city. "Excuse me sir, might I inquire as to your knowledge of the monster attacks?" the bell voice would ring loud enough for him to hear in the midst of the people.

[atrb=align,right][atrb=style,width:320,btable][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,border-bottom: 1px solid #707070;] VINDICATOR | 'Hm...' The delightful aroma of baked goods, delicious, meats, and expensive sweet wines all intertwined to make one heavenly scent that lingered around the capital. Merchants, cooks, and skillful street-performers drew small crowds of adoring children and interested adults. The hulking warrior couldn't help but feel at 'home' in this false Ivalice. As he followed the natural flow of traffic, he couldn't help but reminisce that last day with Rion three years ago. The destruction, the screams, the blood. It all remained so vivid -- vivid to the point he could still taste the blood in his mouth. In the middle of this defining memory, a broad shoulder collided with his own. Oni snapped out of the hypnotizing trance and glared at the passing individual -- this individual glaring directly back. 'S's's'sorry, f'f'f'friend....' A well draped Bangaa spoke with a friendly tone. The Bangaa looked elderly yet matched Oni in physique. The Warrior's blood boiled hot for competition. He remembered the days of the Bangaa -- the unmatched lizard folk of the desert. 'No worries, my fault, I suppose.' The warrior replied with a simple head nod as he continued on his way. With the Bangaa on his way, Oni sighed -- his competitive nature almost getting the better of him. How would he look if he challenged the lizard to a spar? These people weren't fighters -- weren't warriors. They were royals, businessmen, and aristocrats. What reason would they have for trivial violence?
'Tch, I really need some kind of lead. I'm frying out here...'
Oni hushed to himself looking directly skyward towards the blazing sun overhead. However, as he did this. His ears slightly twitched as a soft voice from behind him caught his attention. Instinctively the hulking male turned towards the source of this voice and examined the speaker. Female, petite, fair white locks with resembling skin, and sky blue eyes. Quite the beauty this one -- respectable too. By her appearance she too seemed to be of noble birth, so why concern herself with such attacks? Surly the knights could handle it, right? Oni's almond gaze broke from the girl and were instead placed on the extravagant water fountain behind her. 'What would a respectable young lass like yourself want with such unfitting information?' |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true][cs=2][atrb=style, width: 400px; border-bottom: 6px solid #eee; border-radius: 120px 0px, bTable; ][atrb=style, padding: -5px; height: 400px;] The world was full of mysteries and some of them, should stay that way. The world they lived in was something to be amazed about....well at least for her. Selvaria hadn't been able to travel to too many places due to her duties here in Rabanastre. Seeing as a young girl like her out in the open asking for information that has nothing to do with a royal member, it would seem out of place. She could understand the man's skepticism when she asked the question, hence why he responded with one of his own. However, his question gave her more information. He was indeed from outside of Ivalice because he was unaware of who she was. Everyone from Rabanastre would know the Princess who lives among them. "Well, I see you are an adventurer indeed. Do tell, where do you hail from?"
She figured it would be common courtesy to answer his question, since she was bombarding him with a random question of her own. "Well, sir, I plan to eradicate the vermin plaguing these lands. The only problem is, I have yet to find these beasts." pausing for a moment, she'd hope the man wouldn't laugh at her claim. The people were her pride and joy and these attacks were getting nearer each day. She couldn't tell the stranger that she sensed the darkness somewhere in the world because she wasn't even sure he'd understand. That being said, the most she could do was find out and go from there. "Things will only get worse from here if left unchecked." she'd murmur more to herself than to him though it was loud enough to hear.
Hopefully, this traveler knew something that could help her out in some way. Selvaria wasn't uneasy about many different things, normally being able to deal with pressure, however, this time, things were different. This was an entirely new ball game.

[atrb=align,right][atrb=style,width:320,btable][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,border-bottom: 1px solid #707070;] VINDICATOR | This noble's dialect remained polite as she asked him another question. 'Where do I hail from...?' Confusion slowly took over Oni's normally dull expression and replaced it with a questionable glare and rose eyebrow. How did he want to address this question? He couldn't simply say: 'I'm from another Ivalice' -- that would do nothing but cause more trouble than good. Could he tell her of his epic travels from world to world --vanquishing man eating beasts and the darkness alike? He then remembered what King-Mickey told him a very long time ago. 'Not everyone know of the different worlds and looming darkness. So be careful one who you approach.' 'That stupid rat...' Oni hated to admit it, but there was nothing but truth behind those words of his. So for him to be honest with this girl, she'd need to have knowledge about the other worlds and darkness. But did Oni seriously want to risk it? He took his almond hue's away from the fountain and placed them back upon the white-haired noble in front of him. 'I'm from the west. The very very very far west.' He replied with a relaxing tone. Technically he wasn't lying, persay -- he really did come from the west once upon a time and this still is Ivalice. It may not be his Ivalice, but it was Ivalice nonetheless. He awkwardly rubbed the back of his head while removing his glare from the female.
'The faaaaaaar west...'
She'd continue to speak -- speaking of how she wanted to vanquish the monsters that threaten this metropolis. 'If only you knew what you were getting yourself into, girl.' He hushed to himself -- reminiscing over his past endeavors with the looming darkness and the poor creatures it corrupts. It was more than obvious this girl knew not of the real danger of this situation. As far as she was concerned, normal beasts are the true culprits behind these sudden and relentless attacks. Ignorance is bliss, he supposed. Oni looked back down at the noble -- her pause a bit unsettling in this very moment. Could she be hiding something from him? No, impossible -- she is just an concerned noble wanting to protect her home, that's it -- nothing more nothing less. So he dismissed the thought altogether. The female would then proceed to mutter something to herself. Oni caught the whispers but couldn't quite decipher her very hushed tone. The warrior crossed his massive arms up against his chiseled framed and sighed before speaking. 'Listen. girl. Don't concern yourself over such matters. Let the people trained to handle such situations handle it, alright? And besides, I'm just as clueless as your are in the subject...' He took a long pause before continuing, 'You wouldn't happen to know any kind of scholar that studies the behavior of monsters, would you? If so, you think you can point me to where I can find him or her?' |

Selvaria wasn't a simple minded girl as the beast of a man before her probably assumed her to be. Most nobles weren't capable of taking care of themselves, nor were they as worried about the cause of things as they always believed that they would be fine, due to their status. The struggles of living under a different rank never really made sense to them and you either had it....or you didn't. The young beauty of Dalmasca was also observant. The glare and lift of the eyebrow had not gone unnoticed though her face had not betrayed her thoughts, wondering why this man was thinking so hard on a simple question. The long pause did nothing to help her mindset, and to be honest, she was slightly uneasy. The feeling of the darkness was enough to worry about but this man could be an agent for all she knew and that she couldn't have.
"Ah, so then you're from a city in Rozarria then." the bell voice would ring thoughtfully. Though, it was more of a rhetorical question just to ease some of the tension. She needed him to believe the fact that she wasn't going to push it, and that she believed him, not that he would have any reason to doubt her anyway. Listening to him speak, she'd smile as said, "Yes....I guess you're right. The people trained should very well take responsibility in this moment." she'd pause though, his next question making her ears perk up a bit. "with a small laugh, she'd raise her hand elegantly to her face as if to stifle her giggle. "Well, I know of one scholar, however, he left for Nabradia, about a week ago and he won't be back for some time. That being said, your next best guide would be me." she'd state matter of fact.
Stepping to the man's side, she'd smile up after him and nod her head in the direction of the city's main entrance. "Shall we?" the noble would ask before taking a few slow steps forward to assure the man was coming. Something was off about him, not to mention, he stuck out like a sort thumb in her mind. He didn't seem to say something earlier and that was bad. Generally, that meant the simple way of saying a secret objective and she didn't like secrets, when her kingdom's well being was involved. It would be better for them to go outside, where there were no ears and no eyes to witness. If anyone knew the lands, she did, and it was quite simple to get lost.

[atrb=align,right][atrb=style,width:320,btable][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,border-bottom: 1px solid #707070;] VINDICATOR | 'Rozar---...' He stopped himself mid sentence and just decided to agree with the young noble. 'Yup... Rozarria. Wonderful place...' Another aura of awkwardness seeped from his pores as he averted his golden gaze from the lass. Truth be told, Oni wasn't much of a lair -- for he preferred the cold honest truth over false emotions and actions any day. But, just this once, he'd make the exception for this young girl and her very noble deeds. Oni listened intently as the girl seemed to agree with him about letting those trained handle the monsters. That was a relief to him -- last thing he needed was another damsel in need of rescue. But, something deep down told him she wouldn't just leave it at that, and just the mere thought made his eye twitch in annoyance. She continued on to say she did indeed know of a scholar with such expertise. Oni couldn't help but feel a wave of morale overtake him this very moment. He has been searching for a solid lead for the past couple of weeks and came has came up short each time. And now, here he is, finally about to get somewhere! However, the girl went on to say said scholar would be out of the kingdom for the time being. That wave of morale, that wave of hope and rejuvenation? Yeah, no more. And to make things worse, the young noble insisted she be the one he talks to about these monsters.
Could things possibly get any worse?!
The female remained oh so cheery during the entire scene -- she even lead the trek to the kingdoms entrance. Oni had no idea how he should feel about this girl. Something told him to just turn the opposite direction and leave it at that. But he didn't want to be rude, especially to some noble who could easily have him spending the rest of his days in some dark secluded dungeon simply for screaming the word "Treason!" So, reluctantly, he followed the girl with a very dull expression -- the very opposite of her happy-go-lucky one. 'Aren't you just lovely.' Oni spoke to the girl leading him through her city. Suddenly, the citizens upon the extravagant streets would split in two halves leaving a massive walkway. From the distances, knights on noble and trustworthy steeds marched down this path. These knights were in heavy armor and seemed ready to die for their country. 'You know anything about this? Almost seems like they're preparing for war.' He asked the noble girl beside him. |

So she was correct in her assumption. This man was indeed spouting a load of horse dung in the simple question of his origin, whereas many could have simply answered. He must not have been one for too much conversation but she would get to the bottom of it soon enough. Most business was done by the princess anyway, especially now that her elder sister had ran away from the palace. This was just too much to think about and so she'd shake her head for a moment to rearrange her thoughts. First, she needed to find out who this man was just for her kingdom's safety. If he wasn't a threat, then it was fine and he didn't need to deal with her any longer than he had to, however, if the opposite was true.......there was going to be some shit in Dalmasca today.
Selvaria was the quite the beauty and reflected that beauty in every movement she made, however, she was not a weakling and was very capable of defending herself. She had saved the lives of others before so this was technically nothing new to her. This man was dangerous or rather wouldn't go down without a fight if it came to that and to be his size, there was definitely the advantage in his corner, but then again, she had some tricks up her sleeve too. Let there be no doubt, she was prepared for the worst as always and no one could change that. She had an obligation to the people that cleared a path for her to the entrance and their safety was a priority. Happy people resulted in a happy kingdom. Listening to his comment about her being lovely, which was definitely sarcastic to a certain degree, she'd laugh knowing he was simply humoring her at that point. "Well, I'd like to think that I'm at least somewhat charming." she'd say with another small laugh before looking to the man with a smile.
Looking up to the taller male for a moment, she'd nod in answer though her words were picked carefully in response. "The knights of Dalmasca are on edge right now due to a couple of things really, however, they are just patrolling for the time being, making sure all is well." Behind the facade she held up quite well, the people had actually separated out of respect for her and her 'guest' as they walked through the city. It wasn't something she liked per se but it was something she had gotten used to. The knights were of course on edge due to the man beside her. Everyone was watching the princess closely and he had just been added to the moment. It wasn't rare for her to walk among her people but when she did, everyone watched, and some even spoke.

[atrb=align,right][atrb=style,width:320,btable][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,border-bottom: 1px solid #707070;] VINDICATOR | The words she spoke about the readied Knights fell on deaf ears as Oni nonchalantly approached the marching defenders of Ivalice. 'Oi, care to answer a few questions?' The asked one of the riding horsemen -- practically joining the traditional march. The Knight glared down at the hulking male and ordered the trek to cease with a single hand gesture. 'You dare interrupt our march, cur?! Be gone, commoner!' Oni stopped dead in his tracks and blinked a few times out of sheer confusion. 'C-c-commoner...' His blood boiled something fierce as he kept himself for saying something he would undoubtedly regret. And besides, like the girl said, these soldiers were going through daunting and troubling times. So lashing out at one bad apple would solve absolutely nothing. 'Sir! I do believe he is the traveler that defended our outer gates from the monsters.' One of the other Knights spoke up. The brigade whispered and gawked at Oni when this knowledge came to their attention. The commander of the group glared at Oni then back at the knight. 'Then tell me. What is his name?' He asked. The knight looked down at Oni, Oni merely shrugged his broad shoulders and awaited for the knight to answer. 'Phoony, Sir...' Oni pinched the bridge of his nose -- as he tends to do when annoyed or bothered and exhaled a very deep depressing sigh. 'Oni, my name is Oni. And I'm here to help rid your monster problems.' The knight snapped his fingers, 'Oni! That's right! Please, forgive me, kind sir.' Oni dismissed the gesture with a smirk and shrugged shoulders. 'ENOUGH!' The Commander barked -- annoyed at the insolence of the knight and the laid back nature of Oni himself. 'I will be the first to thank you for what you did. But I will not allow you to interfere with Dalmasca affairs.' Oni nodded and crossed his arms across his exposed chiseled chest. 'I understand your loyalty to your people and country. It's quite admirable, and I'm sure you make a fine knight. But this is a battle you can't win, I'm sorry to say. You're dealing with forces you have no idea how to battle against.' Oni kept the explanation short, simple, and sweet. The commander rose his hand and signaled the march to start again. 'Again, I thank you for all your help. But If you interfere with affairs that don't concern you again. I will not hesitate to lock you up, are we understood?' Oni said nothing to the Commanders words. 'That 'witch' has foreseen this, also. I fail to believe this to is a mere coincidence.' The Commander whispered to another knight. However, Oni caught and deciphered such a hushed tone. 'Witch?' He asked, but the Commander ignored him. 'Hey, what Witch?!' Again, no answer. 'Dammit!' He spat off the side and contemplated on what to do next.
'Witch? I can't just let this go... Especially if she is foreseeing events and whatnot. But the Commander won't even speak to me. Dammit. Wait, maybe the girl knows something?' He looked at the young noble and strolled back over to her side. 'That Commander is a real hard-ass, yeah? I'm sure he'll see to the threat if I get caught, too.' He sighed -- truly annoying. 'Listen, you wouldn't happen to know of a Witch, would you? Rumors? Stories? Anything? Would be easier if he'd just talk to me, but it looks like he's suspicious when it comes to my intent.' Oni took a small pause in between his words and shook his head. 'Maybe if I get him by himself, I can convince him to tell me more about this Witch and the events she has foresaw? Maybe I can get someone to do it for me?' Truly truly truly annoying... |

Watching as the approached, she was at least in earshot of the event and though, she'd rather not have the knights act in such an unsophisticated manner but that man was known for being a dick. However, even so, the man was good at what he did and he obviously had information about someone who knew more about this situation and that was her ticket. This man, whose name she heard to be Oni, had helped defend the castle gates and as that thought rested in her mind, she would have to agree that he couldn't be completely bad then. She'd have to thank him later and if he was able to defeat the monsters....then she'd have to not only witness this herself but ask of their appearance. She knew that the uneasy feeling was the root cause of all of this and if she could just pinpoint it....they wouldn't be in this mess now.
Oni had said that the knights couldn't defeat these monsters, which meant that out of everyone at the gate earlier, only he was able. To make matters worse, that same thing he said, were the exact words of an unknown witch. Listening to the rest of the conversation didn't help as her eyes narrowed slightly, hearing the involvement of a witch. That was a lead neither of the two could deny and she wasn't one to be trifled with despite her kind demeanor. Snow had many good qualities but also bad ones and when it came to her....well....'Absolute Zero' was an understatement. Approaching the male with her after the small argument, she'd touch the fabric of his shirt on his arm, not wanting to get too close for respect of his personal space to some degree. "I'll get the information about the witch. I promise. Just give me a second with the commander. Wait right here." she'd say as immediately turned, her elegant walk with purpose as she hurried down street after him.
Stepping beside the commander's horse, she'd speak, turning to face the man fully. "Commander, I'd like to know the information regarding this so called witch. If you'd be so kind as to indulge me. Everything you know is needed." the bell voice was kind but the underlying tone was an order. The way things were going now it would be too late before they found anything out and this man knowing of something and not speaking it or rushing it, just because she was a witch, well....the oblivious ones.....quite pitiful.

How could a noble knight like himself withhold information from the hire to the Dalmasca throne? "Aye, I'll tell you everything I know, your highness." The commander replied to the young hire with the utmost amount of respect. He cleared his throat with a armored clad fist pressing firmly against his lips. "Hey name is Helga 'The Wise'. It isn't the fact she is a witch, it's the fact she proclaims herself as one, your majesty." The Commander continued, "She's renowned for her telepathic abilities -- capable of predicting outcomes days, weeks, or even months before they happen. One day, when I was out patrolling the country border with my brigade. A mighty sandstorm unlike kind any of us have ever seen engulfed us. This burst of wind and swirling sand only lasted for a moment, however, when it had subsided. There she stood, a brittle old women with a cane spouting complete nonsense about The Darkness, the sudden monster attacks, something known as Heartless, and a young lad with a large sword and glowing almond eyes." He took an eerie pause, "This happened a little over six months ago."
He spoke nothing but the truth -- the tone in which he spoke convinced you of this.
"Everything she has spoke of came true, you majesty. You see why I'm so cautious and on the edge, correct? I cannot trust these creatures and I certainly can't trust that boy... It's for the good of our nation! Please, you must understand, princess!" He plead with a proud deep tone. "However, she did say he was the who would put an end to all this madness... She also mentioned if we ever needed her, she could be found within the Dalmasca Estersands. But those sands contain the most ruthless of beasts, so I don't know how much truth are in those words." The Knight sighed and bowed to the young princess before him. "That is everything, your majesty!" He'd look up and glare at Oni far away from them. "I don't know what you intend on doing, princess. But please! Reconsider!" He'd plea once again with much distraught on his face.

This was an interesting turn of events that worked out much more than she had planned for them to. What would have been more interesting than this large data cache she seemed to learn of, due to the fact of her rank, by birth. It was a tad bit alarming though, because that meant they were six months behind in prepping for this event due to the man not speaking up about any of this sooner. Since that was the case, they were well behind and whatever darkness she felt had to be what the woman was speaking of and at this point, time was now of the essence. There was no way she could sit back now, especially after learning something this vital after searching for information for weeks. With a small smile to the knight, she'd grab his hand closest to her before reassuring him, "I promise I won't do anything too dangerous, however, I cannot turn a blind eye. I need you to keep guard over the royal city in my absence. I'll return shortly, just a small trip. For this will all be over soon." the bell voice would say reassuringly in the kindest tone she could manage. They each had a job to do and though she wanted to stay in the city, she also wanted to protect her people and this woman knew where the darkness came from and with that information, Selvaria could end this on her own even.
Turning from the knight she'd take off in Oni's direction ready to reveal the information she had received. It was clear from the start that Oni's interest was only in the information and she couldn't blame him. At this moment, she didn't care if he would ever like her, but the sense of duty she felt compelled to fulfill was leading the charge in her mind and it was slightly unnerving, facing the unknown yet again but that's not always the most pleasant choice of actions. Walking up to the hulking figure with white hair and almond orbs, she'd meet his gaze with her matching ice blue ones as she spoke, " So it would seem the self proclaimed Witch ,Helga 'The Wise' predicted the monster attacks, known as Heartless, and even your arrival. This was six months ago." she'd pause for a moment now, her eyes looking down for a moment before staring back him. "Helga is known for her telepathic abilites, being able to even predict the future with complete accuracy. She gave my knight the message as a warning to prepare, and he is only now bringing it up for the thought of it being ridiculous, however, you and I both know otherwise." she'd say thoughtfully though sure her point was coming across.
"Her last words....were if she was ever needed, then she could be found in the Dalmasca Estersands. That's not very far from here at all but that is also where the most dangerous monsters are located. That being said, that should be where most of the Heartless have taken over, if not at least to some degree. So when do we leave to find her? I know my way around the Estersands quite well." That was all she really was going to say as she knew he wasn't completely telling her everything about himself but she wasn't either so she expected nothing less but she wouldn't be revealing her royal lineage as of right now or to him period if she didn't need to however, she was definitely sure that Helga would have a few words for her. It was also on the way to the tomb of the Dalmasca royal family, a perilous journey at that.
